https://hh-publisher.com/ojs321/index.php/JHIS/article/view/1083

Halal poultry technology such as machineries that include life birds handling, slaughtering tools, scalding and plucking machine, evisceration, pre-cooling, cutting and packaging produce efficiency in poultry meat production. A lot of poultry slaughterhouses worldwide has adopted technology in their companies. However, in Brunei, technology usage has not been embraced fully by all slaughterhouses except the commercial companies. Therefore, this research aims to investigate if the speed, safety, quality and Halal aspects of poultry meat production in Brunei are improved by the help of advanced technology as well as other related aspects as to meet the increasing demand of poultry meat supply. Additionally, the research also aims to identify the level of desire of slaughterhouse owners in Brunei to invest in advanced technology for their service. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative approach was used. An interview was conducted with a few government and private sectors who are involved in the poultry meat production in Brunei. The results of the research showed that technology contributed to the improvement of poultry meat production in Brunei which can be seen in a number of aspects such as improvement in term of speed, safety, quality and cleanliness with an assistance from manual handling and practice. Moreover, the need for technological adoption is also highlighted on its contribution during a disease outbreak and as a way to tackle increasing demand for poultry meat production. It was also found that the owners of local poultry slaughterhouses have the desire to invest further in advanced technology as a way to improve their service. Nevertheless, it is hoped that future research could broaden the term of technology including robotic and artificial intelligent aspect as a few of the companies have shown interest on them.
Dayang Hajah Yumni Syakirah Awang Haji Othman, Zeiad Amjad Aghwan

https://hh-publisher.com/ojs321/index.php/JHIS/article/view/1082

The concept of halalan thayyiban was introduced in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) more than 1400 years ago. Naturally, these divine and holistic terms apply to all life aspects including the attitude of the abattoir personnel who handle the living animals as forgoing these may contradict the Islamic values. Therefore, this study aims to ascertain whether the attitude of slaughterhouse workers aligns with the halalan thayyiban principles. Along the same line, this research also intends to outline the existing and potential strategies for improving as well as maintaining the attitude of the personnel in upholding animal welfare. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews was conducted at selected local slaughterhouses in Brunei Darussalam. The results of the study showed that all the personnel involved displayed exemplary attitudes towards animal welfare according to halalan thayyiban perspectives. Moreover, it was found that the current approaches used in the slaughterhouses had a significant impact on the attitude of the workers. Additionally, the study was also able to acquire their recommendations and viewpoints in enhancing and sustaining their attitude towards animal welfare. Hence, the study concluded that applying halalan thayyiban values and introducing relevant procedures are undoubtedly vital in shaping the personnel’s attitude to secure animal welfare as per Shariah directives. Nonetheless, it is hoped that this study will assist future works in further analysing the attitude of abattoir workers in a wider scope.
Nur Jeslina Hasnal, Zeiad Amjad Aghwan

https://hh-publisher.com/ojs321/index.php/JHIS/article/view/930

Inclusivity is an important aspect and it may bring forth many positive aspects. However, in modern times, inclusivity has been used as a tool to divide people from various social hierarchies. Challenged by the narrative, the researchers are interested in writing a paper that delves into inclusivity aspects from the Islamic perspective. The paper uses resources related to Islamic values such as Quranic verses, Maqasid al-Shariah, Hadith, historical contexts, and many others. Some of the important highlights of the paper emphasize the importance of inclusivity as it leads to a sense of belonging, a more welcoming atmosphere, equal opportunities, respect for cultural differences as well as diverse representation in leadership. Despite many positive aspects, inclusivity may also lead to negative happenstances such as tokenism, cancel culture, selective inclusivity, ideological conformity, and identity politics. As many young Muslims become activists, it is important to provide them with guidelines to ensure they know what is up and thus, they will promote the correct path of inclusivity. To reach that objective, they need to be well-informed, set a good example, seek guidance, form alliances, and demonstrate resilience. Islam emphasizes equality, justice, and compassion. Those values can lead the Ummah to better personal growth. Inclusivity, handled in the right way, is a force that helps to create peaceful and conducive communities.
Firdaus Fanny Putera Perdana, Betania Kartika
